I'm sure Intego makes good products, but as I noted above, the software is based on a subscription model. ![]() But as is the case with all insurance policies, the decision of whether or not get it boils down to what the potential liability you are trying to protect yourself against is, and what that protection costs. You're looking at is at some kind of insurance, and that's fine. On a Windows machine, I'd be using virus protection on the Mac, I consider it unnecessary, The cost of good quality filter for all the lenses I bought over the years would easily pay for a few replacement lenses should I damage one. Many years ago, I stopped buying protective filters for lenses as I have never, ever scratched or otherwise damaged the front element of a lens (and I've been using cameras with interchangeable lenses since 1974). Could my computer be infected at some point? Sure, but I consider the odds negligible. I've never gotten a single virus on the Mac. If you want reliable and constantly updated protection, you can only get it on a subscription basis, and when I calculate the cost over time, it just isn't worth it. I tried the free version of Sophos for a couple of months a while back just to see if it would detect anything, and the only malware it ever found was located in email attachments sent by Windows users that would not do anything on a Mac at all assuming one were stupid enough to try to open them in the first place. I've been using Macs since the first one was released in 1984 and I do not use any antivirus software.
